0,0,0: Tigers’ sorry top-order tale continues
The sorry tale of Bangladesh's top-order continues as Bangladesh lost three quick wickets inside just 5.1 overs on the opening day of their first Test against West Indies at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua today.
At the end of nine overs, Bangladesh were 22 for the loss of three wickets with Tamim Iqbal unbeaten on 19 and in-form batter Liton Das on 3 not out.
Pacer Kemar Roach was the destroyer in chief, picking up the wickets of opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Najmul Hossain Shanto in his first two overs.
Joy departed in the innings' second ball when he poked at a length delivery to edge it back to the slip cordon. The right-hander departed for a golden duck.
Shanto, who also could not open his account, fell in the very next over as a Roach delivery found the gap between bat and pad to dismantle the left-hander's stumps.
Mominul Haque soon followed suit as the batter chased a Jayden Seales delivery away from his body and ended up edging back to the slip. Mominul, who stepped down from his role as the Test captain to focus on his batting, did not see any turn of fortunes as he too fell without troubling the scorers.
Tamim, however, has batted brilliantly in the middle as the left-hander became only the second Bangladeshi to reach the 5000-run landmark in Tests.
