Bangladesh avoid innings defeat
Bangladesh were staring at an innings defeat as the Tigers lost four wickets in the third morning and were reduced to 115 for six at Lunch in their first Test against the West Indies at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua today.
However, even though the Tigers are in no way out of the danger of a heavy defeat, they managed to at least avoid an innings defeat as Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh took the lead against the Windies after lunch. After 66 overs in their second innings, Bangladesh scored 185 for six and now lead by 23 runs.
The Tigers were tested by Kemar Roach and Kyle Mayers in the afternoon session as well, with both the pacers beating both Shakib and Nurul Hasan Sohan a number of times. At times, both the batters were lucky enough to not edge one back to the keeper or even get trapped in front.
Despite the Windies pacers getting the ball to move, Shakib did not shy away from playing his shots. In fact, barring a few close calls, Shakib played a few delightful drives as he raced to 43 off 61 deliveries with four boundaries -- all of which were struck in the afternoon session.
Sohan, who looked to be facing the most problems in getting himself settled out in the middle, has also moved to 35 off 74 deliveries and started to look more comfortable. Both Sohan and Shakib has also strung together a 77-run stand for the seventh wicket, which is the highest stand for the Tigers in the Test so far.
