Roach bags 10th Test fifer as Tigers set a meagre 84-run target

Star Sports Report

Almost immediately after taking the second new ball, West Indies were able to break the resistance put up by Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan and Nurul Hasan Sohan and bundle the Tigers out in the final session of the third day of their first Test in Antigua today.

Pacer Kemar Roach was the destroyer in chief, getting both the crucial scalps of Shakib and Sohan, as Bangladesh were bundled out for 245, setting a meagre 84-run target.

In the third over after opting for the new ball, West Indies got their desired breakthrough when pacer Kemar Roach had Shakib (63 off 99) caught at extra cover. Shakib stood his ground and drove a fuller length delivery, swinging away from the left-handed batter, straight to the man at extra cover who made no mistake in holding on to it.

The wicket ended a stubborn 123-run seventh-wicket stand between Shakib and Sohan which helped the Tigers avoid an innings defeat after they had lost four wickets in the morning session and were left reeling at 109 for six at one stage of the game.

With Shakib back in the pavilion, Sohan seemed to have lost his patience as he needlessly chased a wide delivery from Roach and ended up nicking it back to the wicketkeeper for a simple catch. Sohan returned after a 147-ball 64, his second fifty in the format.

With the tail exposed, it did not take long for the Windies to wrap it up. Alzarri Joseph knocked off the stumps of Mustafizur Rahman as he missed to connect a wild swing before Roach got through the defenses of Ebadot Hossain to register his 10th Test fifer. He ended with figures of five for 53 in 24.5 overs that included 10 maidens. Roach also took his tally to 50 wickets at the venue as he remained at the top of the wicket takers' list in Antigua.
