Star Diary
A Magnanimous Police Sergeant
No matter whether it rains or the sun shines, three types of people- policeman, rickshaw-puller and diabetic patient cannot but go out of doors early in the morning regularly. As a diabetic patient, I also go out for a morning walk everyday. One morning, after completing my last lap of walk when I had reached near Star Kabab, a restaurant at Banani I saw a police sergeant admonish an old and weak rickshaw-puller for parking rickshaw in a wrong way. The rickshaw-puller was petrified with fear, and somehow managed to put aside his rickshaw. At one point, probably, watching the rickshaw-puller's debility, the sergeant felt pity for him and offered him breakfast at Star Kabab. Misconceiving the proposal as a mockery, the rickshaw-puller looked at the sergeant with fearful eyes and apprehended that much more grievous punishment was pending for him. But the sergeant's repeated request made him confident to give his consent to the proposal.
The magnanimity of the police sergeant amazed me. It is not his uniform, but his virtue that makes him different.

Private Car for Public Use!
A few days ago, I was waiting at Gulshan-1 intersection for public transport to reach my home. All the vehicles plying towards my destination was crowded with commuters. So, I was waiting for hours but did not have a vehicle to reach my destination. To my utter surprise, I saw a sophisticated private car approaching the bus stand where the driver was hawking for passengers! The driver was taking passengers to Mohakhali and asking fare two to three times more than the usual. The immoral driver took the passenger to have more money breaching ethics and risking his life and that of his passengers. More often we see such practice around us in Dhaka. It may cause many unpleasant events for example robbery, mugging or loss of lives of both the driver and passengers.
