Where is Home?
The article on the above caption that appeared on the Star Weekend on 08 April, 2016 with a mixed feeling which drew both sympathy for the displacement of the Urdu speaking people for their own set-backs; it brought back memories of rage during the war of liberation that are quiet deeply rooted in the minds of the people of Bangladesh.
This segment of people who opted to migrate in the then eastern wing of Pakistan being born out of the partition of the Indian Subcontinent, and then again the nation that came into existence from the outcome of the liberation war with majority Muslim population including the same bulk of migrants –  popularly known as 'Biharis'. These people were used as a kind of political tools by the then Pakistan government. to have a rift between the two wings.

The Outstanding Economic Growth
Over the past few years, Bangladesh has made remarkable progress in various economic parameters. For instance, Bangladesh has shown outstanding performance in terms of GDP growth, per capita income and all other indicators. It has been maintaining GDP growth above 6% for six consecutive years; very recently GDP growth has reached 7%, which is unmatched in South East Asia. Moreover, our per capita income has also increased and hovering around USD 1500. In the period of global recession, Bangladesh economy has been buoyant and resilient. It is heartening to see that our GDP and per capita income are mounting in a good pace and new heights, on the others hand, inequality has also been widening. The gap between rich and poor should also be checked for balance growth. If we cannot ensure an acceptable balance between rich and poor, the benefit of this amazing economic progress will not be perceived in the society.

A Failed Democracy
Thanks to Shahnawaz for his timely article titled "Blood Stained Election A Failed Democracy" published on April 22, 2016. Really, we are a nation which has the habit of forgetting the past.  They say, history doesn't repeat but it rhymes. But I think, at least in the context of our country, it is not totally true. Unfortunately history repeats here again and again. The similar incident happens in our country over and again.  In October 28, 2007, the world saw, thanks to media, how mercilessly a man was killed by bamboo sticks (so called logi boitha) in the pre election violence. Then, we the general people expected earnestly not to see this kind of violence again. But unfortunately, over the last few years, we saw series of brutal terrorist activities that happened centring the election. If this situation continues, that day is not very far when full scale massacre or civil war may break out in the name of election violence.
I totally agree with the writer and based on his conclusion, I want to say, if the election is the main pillar of democracy then we have to admit that we have destroyed this pillar by our malpractice in the name of democracy!
