IUBAT’s green campus: A delightful learning environment
International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) is one of the first private universities in Bangladesh, founded by the late Dr Alimullah Miyan. The university started its journey in 1991, in Dhanmondi. However, in 2005, IUBAT’s campus was shifted to Uttara, on about 5.5 acres of land in Sector 10, with a beautiful view. The green courtyard of the university consists of a lake, an open basketball ground and a large field bedded with grass.

Team Bangladesh at International Mathematical Olympiad 2019
M Ahsan Al Mahir (SOS Hermann Gmeiner College, Dhaka), Ahmed Ittihad Hasib (Dhaka Residential Model College, Mohammadpur, Dhaka), Soumitra Das (Government Rajendra College, Faridpur), Md Maruf Hasan Rubab (Mymensingh Zilla School, Mymensingh), Saadman Hasan (St Joseph Higher Secondary School, Dhaka) and Mashroor Hasan Bhuiyan (Notre Dame College, Dhaka) represented Bangladesh in Bath, United Kingdom, at this year’s International Math Olympiad (IMO). Ahsan bagged the Bronze medal while Soumitra, Ittihad, Maruf and Saadman received honourable mentions at the prize-giving ceremony of the competition.

Car Free Street Dhaka: A great start to the weekend
On the first Friday of every month, a part of Manik Mia Avenue is blocked by Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) to create space for people to run, play, cycle and carry out a range of other activities. Teenagers ride their bicycles while their parents take strolls in the empty street. I visited the spot on the first Friday of August and talked to many people who came along with their family and friends to enjoy the day.

SPIYCE is an EMK small grantee 2019 Empowerment through Law of the Common People (ELCOP) project which aims to train undergraduate students in effective community engagement. ‘Poetry for Peace’ held at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro
An event titled, ‘Poetry for Peace” was organised jointly by World Poetry Festival and Kathak, a Bangladeshi Poetry Initiative, recently. It was held at Bishwo Shahitto Kendro. The general theme of the event was presenting a united stand against the recurring acts of violence across the globe.
