Afghanistan secured automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup with a win over Ireland on Monday, leaving twice champions West Indies to go through qualifiers for the third successive edition of the 50-overs tournament.

Bangladesh are all but certain to qualify directly for the 2027 ODI World Cup after Afghanistan’s 92-run win over Ireland in the second ODI of their five-match series on Friday -- a result that also left West Indies on the brink of having to play the qualifiers.

South Africa last co-hosted the tournament in 2003, alongside Zimbabwe and Kenya. They will stage the 2027 tournament alongside Zimbabwe and Namibia.

There was a time when Bangladesh’s most consistent format was One-Day Internationals (ODIs). But judging by recent performances, this is now the format where they seem most out of rhythm.
