The head of the US Olympic committee said on Tuesday the 2026 World Cup will be a first "trial run" of the United States' ability to host spectators ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Virat Kohli welcomed the inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and, although the Indian great will not be coaxed out of retirement for the showpiece, he said he believed a new generation of Indian athletes would be ready to strike gold.

But all the new sports will still need to be voted in by the IOC membership in a ballot due to be held on Monday before they are assured of a place at the 2028 Games.
