Government-owned banks and non-bank financial institutions yesterday highlighted 25 innovative initiatives that offer various financial services to customers.

Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) has been incurring losses for at least 30 years due mainly to structural weaknesses as the state-run lender has to lend at lower interest rates, pay more for deposits and is sitting on higher non-performing loans. 

Six former officials of Bangladesh Krishi Bank Limited were sent to jail yesterday in connection with a graft case.

There are 1.14 lakh bank accounts in commercial banks having Tk 1 crore or more each as of December last year, Finance Minister AMA Muhith told parliament yesterday.
