Bangladesh has imported a large volume of wheat within nine and a half months of this fiscal year, exceeding the total amount imported in the previous year.

Bangladesh’s wheat imports are expected to cross 60 lakh tonnes for a second consecutive year, thanks to lower prices in the international market and higher domestic demand for the cereal grain, which is the second most consumed staple after rice.

Bangladesh was among the top 10 importing countries of Indian wheat in the 2020-21 fiscal year, according to the Indian commerce ministry.
