Legitimacy is all about inclusion and participation of voters and parties, and how people view the election. 

The EC has repeatedly said one thing and did something other than that, if not the opposite.

A number of controversial decisions, actions and statements of the EC itself has put it in this situation.

Shrugging off its moral obligation with unpalatable comments will not add to the cause of gaining public trust.
