The situation in newly flood-hit areas of the country’s northern and northeastern regions may worsen as the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) yesterday warned of flash or short-duration flooding over the next one to two days.

Heavy rain and the onrush of water from upstream have raised river water levels, inundating low-lying areas and triggering flash floods in several districts.

The flood situation in the northern region and low-lying parts of Dhaka division is likely to worsen in the coming days, officials and experts said yesterday.
