Lending by foreign banks operating in Bangladesh declined 11 percent in 2025, with a Bangladesh Bank (BB) report describing the contraction as a “cautious business strategy”.

The earnings of foreign banks operating in Bangladesh rocketed in 2022 buoyed by their incomes from the dealings of international currencies.

Foreign banks operating in Bangladesh registered an 8.57 per cent growth in deposits in the October-December quarter of 2022, the highest since 2018, as many savers shifted their funds from local banks amid a confidence crisis. 

Criminals are now using international credit cards issued by foreign banks to steal money.
