Directed by Mohsina Akter, Spardha: Independent Theatre Collective’s production of “Tobuo Jege Uthi” depicts the experience of womanhood and the struggle of women in the maw of patriarchy.

“Tobuo Jege Uthi” examines women’s everyday realities within structures shaped by gender, identity, power and patriarchy.

Originally written in 1959, Pinter’s “The Applicant” examines the dehumanising structures of modern capitalist systems through the framework of a job interview. The adaptation highlights how institutional power often reduces individuals to objects of control in the name of discipline and professionalism.

Dhaka’s theatre scene, long in search of renewal, is finding fresh energy in Spardha: Independent Theatre Collective. Since its establishment on September 12, 2018, the troupe has earned a reputation for uncompromising productions, presenting works such as “Jibon O Rajnaitik Bastobota”, “4.48 Psychosis”, “Bismoykor Sob Kichu”, “Ami Birangana Bolchi”, and “Tobu-o Jege Uthi”. More than conventional performances, each production has served as a pointed provocation—inviting audiences to confront social realities with sharper attention.

Spardha’s acclaimed productions "Bismaykar Sabkichu" and "Tobu-o Jege Uthi"—the latter directed by Mohsina Akter—will return to the stage for one and three performances, respectively. This phase also includes four additional workshops and a public panel.
