Titled “Nazruler Chhandataranga” (Nazrul’s Rhythmic Waves), the programme will be held at rehearsal rooms 104 and 105 of the Music and Dance Centre building under the initiative of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

A special cultural evening featuring National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s traditional Leto Gaan (folk musical theatre) and Kabigaan (poetic musical debate) was held at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka on Thursday as part of the ongoing Nazrul Year celebrations.

The organisations urged the government, cultural institutions and educational establishments to organise cultural events, discussions and awareness programmes across the country to commemorate the centenary of the historic song.

Nazrul’s “Rebel Poet” identity is too constrained to limit him within a single frame. Nazrul’s poetry moves, shifts beyond even its historical significance. They take rebirth, vertebrate, enter speech, then public conscience, and Nazrul returns as chant—becoming the primary language of people’s struggle for rights, carrying an unyielding spirit in every movement when people most need him.

Kazi Nazrul Islam (1899-1976) is one of the greatest Bangla-language poets and a formidable revolutionary poet.

An exhibition showcasing portraits of Tagore and Nazrul, created by more than 100 students from 13 schools in and around Dhaka, was also held as part of the event.

The scale of the preparations had already created a festive atmosphere across the division and added that the programme would also provide an opportunity to showcase local cultural heritage and indigenous traditions.

Rabindranath Tagore’s 165th birth anniversary and Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 127th birth anniversary will be observed with national-level celebrations, according to a preparatory meeting held on Sunday at the Secretariat.
