Alliance Française de Dhaka is set to host a distinctive exhibition featuring traditional musical instruments handcrafted by Mohammad Zakir Hossain. Titled “Symphony of Healing”, the exhibition will officially open on November 25 at 6pm at La Galerie in Dhanmondi.

In a letter signed by renowned director Mamunur Rashid and dated Tuesday, the committee highlighted significant challenges in collaborating with the federation's central leadership.

Today two theatre troupes are set to perform street plays at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), advocating for the safety of theatre artistes. This protest is in response to the cancellation of the play “Nityapurana” on November 2, as well as the subsequent attack on renowned thespian Mamunur Rashid during a demonstration led by Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF) activists.

Following the attack, the theater group Aranyak Natyadal decided to cancel the scheduled 7:00pm performance of their play Company at the main auditorium of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

Veteran actor Mamunur Rashid has just about wrapped up filming for his latest exciting project, “Borbaad,” directed by Mehedi Hasan Hridoy. After completing the shoot in Mumbai, India, he has officially returned to Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Television (BTV) has arranged for a line-up of special programs for Eid, similar to other satellite channels in the country. In celebration of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, BTV will hence present three exclusive drama serials and a four-episode series.

His latest project, titled "Charan Chhuye Jay '' will mark his return to directing television drama after a lengthy hiatus. The drama series is set to be produced for a private television channel. Mamunur Rashid expressed his eagerness to commence shooting for the series soon, as preparations are currently underway.

Mamunur Rashid himself is part of the cast of this theatrical play. The artiste stated that staging a play on Eid is a record-making event in the country.

The play is centred around a timeline of 1744-1757 when British imperialism began to spread around the globe, especially the Indian subcontinent, to consciously rule them.

The storyline revolves around an unconventional duo – a grandfather and his grandson, who find themselves attending the same school. Produced by Bhepu Creations Limited, the production is slated to air on Maasranga Television during the upcoming Eid festivities.

Adding to this he also mentioned that he is one of the witnesses of this incident and took a photo of the ongoing fire. “When I was capturing this moment, my heart was wrenching, and I was in tears while being a witness of such a moment. The air of Bailey Road is still filled with the smell of smoke. Alas! Bailey Road.”

On eminent theatre and cultural personality Mamunur Rashid's 75th birthday, one of his most celebrated disciples, Chanchal Chowdhury, presented him with a self-drawn portrait of his. In a way, the “Hawa” actor hence commemorated the long-withstanding ancient tradition “Guru Dakshina”.

Eminent cultural personality and Ekushey Padak winner Mamunur Rashid is a stalwart of the Bangladeshi media, simultaneously contributing as a playwright, director, and actor, and improving the cultural sector in the country. He is also the founder of Aranyak Natyadal.

The inaugural ceremony, graced by celebrated guests including playwright Mamunur Rashid, actors and actresses Tariq Anam Khan, Bonna Mirza, Salahuddin Lavlu, and Aruna Biswas, marked the commencement of the theatrical affair. Indian artistes Anshuman Bhowmick and Sanchita Bashu added an international flavour to the event, emphasising the cross-cultural significance of the fair.

Since December 22, Aranyak has been staging the play continuously for six days at various theatre halls across Kolkata, including Kalyani Mancha in the city, as well as in Madhyamgram and Belgharia in West Bengal, India.
