Mob violence has been occurring in the country for years. But the recent spate of mugging and robbery has apparently caused a surge in such incidences.

Issuing a strong warning against any sort of mob violence, Mahfuj Alam, adviser to the interim government, said the government would handle such issues with an iron hand from now on.

The punishment for a crime should be proportional to the crime itself — no more and no less.
