Information Adviser Nahid Islam said yesterday that there has been no decision about student representatives resigning from the interim government to join a political party.

The 17th Bangladesh International Short and Independent Film Festival is being organised this year by the Bangladesh Short Film Forum, featuring 276 films from over 100 countries. The event is scheduled to run from December 20 to 27.

Information adviser says govt got the people's message, and decision has to be taken through discussions

Renowned actor and freedom fighter Masud Parvez Sohel Rana, in a Facebook post on Wednesday, strongly criticised the interim government's posts, telecommunications, and information technology adviser, Md Nahid Islam’s statement on the cancellation of eight national days.

Information Adviser Nahid Islam has said they have taken the initiative to form a reform commission to address various regulatory issues concerning print and electronic media, along with social media.

The film industry continues to face significant challenges as most cinemas remain closed, and the few that have reopened are struggling due to a lack of new releases. Filmmakers are hesitant to debut their projects in this climate, forcing theatre owners to rely on screening older films. 

Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam announced that a certification board will be formed soon under the Bangladesh Film Certification Act, 2023.

Following the fall of the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government, widespread reforms are sweeping across the country. Every sector is changing, with new measures being implemented. The film industry is also poised to experience this wave of transformation. During Sheikh Hasina's tenure, several films were banned by the censor board, but now, the industry anticipates a shift in regulations and greater creative freedom.

Numerous films faced bans during the previous administration, with some caught up in legal disputes while others were shelved for unexplained reasons. Producers voiced their frustration over films stalled in the censor board's approval process, but their protests yielded no resolution. For years, filmmakers have called for the abolition of the censor board in favour of a system of censor certification.
