Barishal Division physiotherapist Hasan Ahmed passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest during the third day’s play in the 27th National Cricket League (NCL) fixture between Khulna Division and Barishal Division at the Khulna Divisional Stadium on Monday.

The 27th edition of the National Cricket League’s (NCL) four-day format will get underway tomorrow across three cities and four venues in the country. As in previous editions, a total of eight teams will feature in the 2025-26 season of the prestigious domestic first-class competition.

However, as fixtures for the forthcoming NCL T20 have already been finalised, Dhaka Metro will still compete in the T20 edition, scheduled to start on September 14.

Formed in 2015 after being carved out of Dhaka division, Mymensingh remains the only administrative division yet to be included in the country's premier domestic first-class competition.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials are considering adding some overseas flair in the country's first-class competitions – National Cricket League (NCL) and the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) – a move that has already caused some controversy, and brought forward arguments both for and against it.

BCL four-day begins February; discussions continue on adding Sri Lanka ‘A’ or Afghanistan ‘A’.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board revealed on Sunday that the winners of the National Cricket League (NCL) T20 will receive Tk 20 lakhs as prize money. 

Sylhet skipper Amite Hasan was adjudged player of the tournament, for having scored a tournament-high 785 runs at an average of 78.50. Dhaka pacer Anamul Haque finished as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker with 36 wickets.

Meanwhile, in a poignant moment, Rajshahi’s veteran all-rounder Farhad Reza played his final first-class knock, but he departed without scoring.

Sabbir scored 116 off 137 balls and shared a 109-run opening stand with Habibur Rahman (57).
