Bangladesh can do nothing if India does not extradite the deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, except for continuing the efforts to persuade India, Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain said yesterday.

Law Adviser Asif Nazrul today said that if India refuses to return Sheikh Hasina, it would constitute a violation of the extradition treaty between Bangladesh and India

The National Independent Investigation Commission, formed to re-investigate the 2009 BDR massacre, has said it will either seek Sheikh Hasina’s extradition from Indian authorities or try to arrange a meeting with her over there.

The report noted that key procedural requirements have not been fulfilled by Dhaka to advance such a request.
