Shimron Hetmyer held his nerve late in the run chase to make an unbeaten 69 and steer the West Indies to a two-wicket win over New Zealand in the fifth and final one-day international.

The West Indies scored 196-6 largely thanks to Sherfane Rutherford's brutal unbeaten 76 and some late hitting from Jason Holder.

Rutherford's unbeaten 68 off 39 balls (two fours, six sixes) lifted the home side from the depths of 30 for five in the seventh over to a competitive 149 for nine and reminded everybody the band of monstrous stroke-makers the West Indies squad possess.

The hosts won the first match in Hobart by 11 runs and sealed the series with a 34-run victory at Adelaide.
