Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal returned to the country from the UK on Monday, having undergone treatment for his back pain. The cricketer will begin his rehabilitation process following a week’s rest.

Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal consulted a spine specialist in London and was administered a few injections as he remains currently under observation.

Bangladesh national cricket team will begin their Asia Cup preparations with the official training camp expected to start in the second week of August.

While there are lots of question marks regarding Tamim Iqbal's return to the team following his unretirement, however, two of his mentors in former ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Nazmul Abedeen Fahim talked about the most important part of Tamim's return, which is to come back with motive and full fitness.

Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal on Monday reached the United Kingdom where the southpaw is scheduled for two medical assessments -- the updates of which the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will keenly be waiting for.

As per Bangladesh's Asia Cup schedule, the Tigers will face Sri Lanka in their opening group match in Kandy, Sri Lanka, on August 31 and then will have to be in Pakistan's Lahore in two days to play Afghanistan.

Bangladesh desperately needed a change in mindset and body language since Tamim Iqbal's retirement saga in the middle of the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan which the hosts conceded with a game in hand before managing to avoid a whitewash.

Tamim had shockingly retired a day after leading the team out for the first ODI, before being convinced to withdraw his retirement by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina just before the second ODI, although with the caveat that the left-handed opener would be going on a one-and-a-half-month break

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is not entirely certain whether Tamim Iqbal will return to the team as the captain of the ODI side, the board’s chairman of the cricket operations committee Jalal Yunus hinted today.  

“Look, obviously we all were shocked after the way Tamim bhai retired and it was unexpected for us. Since we had a break that day, we came for training the next day and we prepared individually for the game. But everyone felt bad after the incident. However, we planned for the game and prepared ourselves,” Miraz told the media after the game

The rough way in which even stalwarts like Tamim and Shakib are handled speaks volumes about the overall mistreatment of players by the BCB.

It was under extraordinary circumstances that ODI captain Tamim Iqbal had announced his shock retirement on Thursday and, just as surprisingly, he withdrew his decision to retire from international cricket the following day after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s intervention.

Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza revealed that it was upon Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s wishes that Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal withdrew his retirement on Friday.

Bangladesh batter Tamim Iqbal decided to withdraw his retirement after meeting the Prime Minister on Friday afternoon, BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon told the media after the meeting.

Tamim, who announced his retirement from international cricket yesterday, was supposed to meet the PM at her office at 2:30pm, the sources confirmed to The Daily Star.

Liton entertained a few questions at the press conference regarding the Tamim issue and the opener’s shock retirement, but at one point lost his cool over the subtext of the press event.

Tamim might have broken down in tears a few times during the press conference, but he made sure he maintained his decency and did not throw mud to anyone; instead he thanked everyone for the support he got over the years.

The all-rounder, who will likely lead the ODI team in the long run in Tamim's absence, wrote that it would be strange to be there out in the middle without the left-handed opener.
