There is a particular kind of silence that falls over an auditorium when two actors who have shared a life off stage agree, finally, to share one on it. That silence settled once again over the Nilima Ibrahim Milonayoton of Bangladesh Mahila Samity on Friday evening, as veteran theatre couple Ramendu Majumdar and Ferdousi Majumder returned to the stage in “Love Letters”, directed by their daughter Tropa Majumdar, in a fresh staging of Theatre’s production on June 19, 2026.

This Father’s Day, actor, director and advertising professional Tropa Majumdar, actor Samrat, filmmaker and actor Sohel Arman, and actress Oindrila Ahmed reflect on the fathers who shaped their lives and left an indelible mark on the nation’s arts and entertainment scene.

The programme began with a warm birthday tribute from the children to Ferdousi Mazumder and Tropa Majumdar.

The Daily Star hosted a star-studded roundtable with Ekushey Padak-winning actor-director Mamunur Rashid, filmmaker Gias Uddin Selim, TV directors Sohel Arman, Animesh Aich, Arif Khan, Aranyo Anawer, Shakal Ahmed, and theatre actor-director Tropa Majumdar, discussing television’s shift from a cultural powerhouse to a medium struggling for survival.

Drawing from Sunil Gangopadhyay’s acclaimed novel “Moner Manush”, the play delves into the spiritual and philosophical essence of Lalon’s akhra—his vibrant space of music, dialogue, and resistance.

Today on Victory Day, marking the country's 53rd year of independence, both state-owned and private television channels will air special programmes underscoring the importance of the Liberation War and the subsequent independence of the country.

It features performances by Tropa Majumdar, Tanay Biswas, Arman Parvez Murad, Sheikh Swapna, Akram Khan, and Adrita, amongst many others.

Today marks the 80th birthday of the renowned actor, Ferdousi Majumdar.
