Will Young was among the more experienced players in an otherwise inexperienced New Zealand ODI squad that suffered a 2-1 defeat in the recently concluded three-match series against hosts Bangladesh. Arriving in Bangladesh after a successful tour of India, Young and his side encountered tougher batting conditions and a hostile pace attack. New Zealand underlined their title aspirations with a 60-run victory against defending champions Pakistan in a Group A match of the Champions Trophy at the National Stadium on Wednesday.

The tourists never recovered after slumping to 23-4 inside 10 overs, dismissed in the 44th over for 178 after being asked to bat in Wellington.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said the result was "very disappointing" after pacer Shoriful Islam's early fireworks.

"The cricket, as well, is just a bonus," said batter Will Young.

Will Young will have the first chance to nail down an opening batting slot in New Zealand's one-day team as the Black Caps warm up for the World Cup against England.
