Two robbers killed in Gazipur shootout: Rab

Two alleged robbers were killed in "shootout" with Rab members in Gazipur city early today.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The "shootout" happened around 2:30am when a Rab team carried out a raid near National Park area on Dhaka-Mymensingh Road on information that a group of robbers gathered there, said Lt Commander Abdullah Al Mamun, a company commander of Rab-1.

Sensing presence of Rab members, the criminals opened fire at the law enforcers who retaliated, resulting in a "shootout", he claimed.

Two sustained bullet injuries while others fled. They were rushed to Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital in Tongi where doctors declared them dead, the Rab official claimed.

Rab claimed to have recovered two firearms, four bullets and two machetes from the spot.

A Rab member also sustained injuries during the "shootout", Rab claimed.
