Wastage of public money by MPs
The TIB's report on the MPs' performance in parliament published in The Daily Star on March 19 is an eye-opener. The MPs think that they can do anything once they are elected. That's why they spend very little time on law-making and quorum crisis in the ninth parliament was to blame for the wastage of more than taka 104 crore from national exchequer.
On March 20, I saw the comments of some MPs on TIB's report. They blasted the report and one of them said that TIB has no right to talk about the parliament and constitution. I want to tell him that every citizen has the right to talk about the parliament and constitution and TIB has also every right to talk about the accountability of parliament and different state organs. Another MP said he wants the government to investigate the source of funding of TIB and the source of income of the civil society members. He, however, forgot the fact that many MPs themselves have accumulated fabulous amount of wealth, according to the recent media reports; and most of it has been amassed in a dishonest way.
