Rohingya: EU welcomes Myanmar’s inquiry move
The European Union today welcomed Myanmar government's move to establish an inquiry commission into the recent violence in Rakhine state.
A press statement floated by the EU spokesperson today emphasised on ensuring accountability of all perpetrators of violence and hatred and prevention of such recurrence in the future.
In the violent attacks against Border Guard Police posts in northern Rakhine State on 9 October 2016 and the ensuing security operations both civilians and security personnel were killed, and thousands of people were displaced and lost their livelihoods, it said.
Regular humanitarian assistance has been disrupted for many weeks, putting at risk over 150,000 vulnerable people. Reports indicate a marked deterioration of the human rights situation in northern Rakhine State, it added.
