Zafar Iqbal's position on Jan 5 polls
The news titled 'Zafar Iqbal slams media' frustrated me a lot as he came down heavily on a section of the media for their stand against holding the 10th parliamentary elections amid a boycott by the main opposition party. He said that the news organisations along with the civil society members had talked about the importance of deferring the January 5 polls and holding dialogue among the rival political parties but nobody was saying that violence had to be stopped immediately. His complaint is completely baseless as these news organisations always published the pictures of violence and condemned these gruesome acts heavily and urged the opposition and ruling parties to stop the subversive activities. These organisations and civil society think tanks realised that the main reason of violence was the January 5 election. So they took stance against it. How will you disagree on this point? Violence will increase after this election. Sir, I respect you a lot but your position in favour of this ridiculous election has disheartened me.
