Job seekers ransack office in Rangamati

Agitated candidates who sat for written test here for posts of primary schools teachers ransacked the Rangamati Hill District Council (RHDC) office on Sunday demanding fresh test.

They broke furniture and 15 flower tubs and criticised the RHDC chairman and its members, witnesses said.

The test was held on Friday and the result was published on Sunday.

The RHDC authorities called police to bring the situation under control.

However, none was arrested, Sub-Inspector (SI) Ratan of Kotwali thana told this correspondent.

A total of 3,900 candidates submitted applications for 27 posts of headmaster and 147 posts of assistant teacher of primary schools in the district. A total of 3,200 candidates sat for the test.

When contacted, RHDC Chairman Maniklal Dewan told The Daily Star that unsuccessful candidates made the attack.

Meanwhile, the Pahari Chhatra Parishad, student wing of Parbattya Chhattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS), brought out a procession here yesterday demanding cancellation of appointment of teachers under the present system. They said the system of issuance of nationality certificate by the administration has to be abandoned as non-tribal are appointed through this.
