Shun politics of criticism: Mohiuddin

BSS, Chittagong
Food Minister Abdullah Al Noman on Sunday called upon the people to plant at least one sapling each in their homesteads.

He was inaugurating a month-long tree fair in front of Chittagong stadium, organized by Chittagong City Corporation (CCC).

The function, chaired by Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chwodhury, was addressed by among others Dr Mir Ezhar Hossain, Director of Forest Research Institute; Dewan Zafrul Hasan, Divisional Forest Officer of Chittagong; Engineer Mahmudul Islam, Badrul Alam, Abdul Malek, Nila Dutta, Prof Dr Kamal Hossain and CCC Chief Executive Mohammad Abul Bashar.

Noman said the government is committed for development of Chittagong as the commercial capital of the country. But to do that, environment has to be protected.

Mayor Mohiuddin Chowdhury urged politicians to shun politics of criticism. No body should be criticised for the sake of criticism. It has become a traditional in our politics to oppose even government's good work.

Though the budget has not been presented, banners reading criticisms against the budget have already been prepared. "We must change this attitude for the greater interest of the nation", he said.

Mohiuddin recently received the best award for tree plantation in 2002. "My party men criticised me for taking the award from Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia", he said.
