Three schoolgirls not rescued in 24 days

Police are yet to trace three schoolgirls 24 days after they were allegedly lured from Patoa village under Gobindaganj upazila by a youth of the same village.

According to cases filed with with Gobindagnaj thana on May 29, one Monirul Islam lured the three girls on May 18 in the name of giving them jobs in a garnments factory in Dhaka.

The victims are Chameli begum, 14, a student of class nine and daughter of Sohrab Ali; Mahamuda, 11, of class six and daughter of Joynal Abedin; and Sabana, 11, of class six and daughter of Khaja Mia.

In the cases, the victims' families alleged that the girls might have been handed over to women traffickers in Dhaka.

Guardians of the girls, accompanied by a team of Gobindaganj police, also searched some places in Dhaka but could not trace the girls, they said at a press conference at Gaibandha Press Club recently.

They sought help from all quarters to rescue the girls.
