Hossain was also chairman of Haripur Union Parishad.
JSD leaders and activists and people from Haripur brought out a procession in the town and handed over a memorandum to the home minister through the Deputy Commissioner protesting the move to drop the name of the prime accused -- Kazal Mazmadar, joint convenor of Kushtia district Jatiyatabadi Shechchasebok Dal.
According to sources, the home ministry in a circular (No 21/2003/law (1)/35) asked the DC and the public prosecutor to take step to drop the name of Kazal from the list of accused.
The circular said Kazal's name was included in the case with a political motive during the tenure of Awami League government.
Kazal is also accused in two other cases.
Following the circular, the public prosecutor filed a petition with the court, seeking withdrawal of the name of Kazal, the sources said. The court set June 30 for hearing of the case.
