Tk 1.41 cr VAT evaded by medicine co

Acting on a tip-off, a special team was sent to the factory of Edruc Pharmaceuticals Limited, Pabna, according to Customs Commissionerate here.

After search, the team recovered the company's documents from July 5, 2000 to April 26 this year and detected evasion of Tk 1.41 cr VAT.

Officials said the amount is only a part of the VAT the company evaded. Only documents on local purchase of materials revealed the swindle.

The VAT authorities told BSS that after scrutiny of other documents on import of raw materials, a huge amount of unpaid VAT by the company is likely to be detected.
