Bus strike in Barisal divn passes 9th day

Bus services are stopped in all the nine routes since Thursday due to a strike by bus owners.

The routes are Barisal-Jhalakati, Barisal-Pirojpur, Barisal-Bhandaria, Barisal-Rajapur, Barisal-Kaukhali, Barisal-Mathbaria, Barisal-Kathalia, Barisal-Patharghata and Barisal-Charkhali.

The bus owners went on strike following a dispute over business share and time schedule for buses.

To add to the misery of people, the striking bus operators are also not allowing other types of motorised vehicles including Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) buses on the routes.

The bus owners associations in Barisal and Jhalakathi districts are led by local leaders of the ruling party.

Sources said the district administrations tried their best to resolve the dispute, but failed.
