Suit against editors protested

Journalists in Mymensingh and Satkhira protested filing of the defamation suit against the editors The Daily Star and the Prothom Alo by Prime Minister's Parliamentary Affairs Advisor Salauddin Qader Chowdhury.

Our Mymensingh correspondent reported that members of Mymensingh Reporters Unity (MRU), Mymensingh Press Club, Mymensingh Sangbadik Union and the local unit of Bangladesh Sangbadik Samity formed a human chain in front of Mymensingh Press Club and held a meeting there on June 22.

They demanded its immediate withdrawal.

A large number of journalists working for different national and local dailies took part in the programmes.

The meeting was presided over by Md Mosharraf Hossain, secretary of the club. Sultan Uddin Khan and Md Saiful Islam, president and secretary of the Reporters Unity; its vice-president Abul Quasem; Ataul Karim Khokon, secretary of the Sangbadik Union; Mir Golam Mustafa, joint secretary of the press club addressed the meeting. The speakers also included journalists Jagadish Chandra Sarker, AHM Motaleb (Khobar), Niamul Kabir Sajal (Prothom Alo), Md. Babul Hossain (Janakantha), Jahangir Alam Liton (Bhorer Kagaj), Md. Nazrul Islam (Dainik Jahan) and Biplab Kumar Guha Manik, joint secretary of the local unit of Bangladesh Photo Journalists Association.

Our Correspondent reported from Satkhira that local journalists in a statement condemned filing of the defamation suit and demanded its immediate withdrawal.
