25,000 still marooned in Nilphamari, flood worsens in Sirajganj

Erosion by the Teesta continues in a least 10 areas including East Chatnai, Kaligang, Fakhrater Char, Dauabari, Tepa Kharibari. Goya Bari, Charkharibari, Golmunda, Baish Pukur, and Jharsingherchar. About eighty percent of Jharsingherchar village has disappeared and 1500 families of this village have taken shelter on the Teesta Barrage.
Erosion by the Charalkata river continues at eight points including Khokar Bazar, Putimari, Bazit Para, Kacukata and Zadur Hat.
Another 200 families have shifted to safer places due to erosion by river in Belpukur union under Saidpur upazila.
Our Sirajganj Correspondent reported that more areas went under water in Sirajganj district.
Erosion by the mighty Jamuna has made about 3,000 families homeless.
The villages worst affected by erosion are Shovogacha, Doyel, Tarakandi, Borosima, Birshovogacha in Kazipur upazila.
The UNO of Kazipur said at least two lakh people have been affected by flood in the upazila.
The Jamuna has devoured a major portion of Raton Khandi marker in the Sadar upazila.
