'AL deal causes Tk 450 cr loss to power sector'
State Minister for Power Iqbal Hassan Mahmud Chowdhury has said.
Talking to BSS here on Monday, he termed the agreement "suicidal'.
He said the present government has taken initiative to set up new power plants but will not sign any such agreement that will go against the interest of the country.
The huge power shortfall is because Awami League government did not take any step to increase power generation, he claimed.
Tthe 20-year IPP agreement was signed by AL government to meet the growing demand for power temporarily.
"Under the agreement, the government is now buying electricity at high price from the private sector," he said.
The government has to buy the entire power generated by the private sector, as stipulated in the agreement, he said.
