6 killed, 30 hurt in bus plunge in Faridpur

Six persons were killed and thirty injured, 10 of them seriously, when a Dhaka-bound night coach fell into a roadside ditch at Chandipur, eight kilometres from the town in the early hours of yesterday.

Five of the dead were identified as Enamul Huq, 35, of Hatirpool in Dhaka; Minar, 32; Nazrul Islam, son of Dr Nurul Islam; Jewell, 35, and coach driver Hasem, 42. One body could not be identified, police said.

Eight of the seriously injured were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. They are Bodu, 25, Jamrul Rashid, 30, Jahanur Kabir, Masuda Rahman, Farida Yasmin, Hossain Al Mamud, Noor Hossain and Alamgir. Two were taken to Magura hospital and the rest were released after first aid.

The accident took place on the Dhaka Khulna highway at 1-30 am when the driver of the bus (Dhaka Metro BA-14-0076 of Sohag Paribahan) from Khulna lost control over it.

On information, Kotwali police and fire-brigade personnel from Faridpur and Rajbari rushed to the spot and rescued the injured and recovered the bodies.

The bodies were sent to Faridpur Medical College hospital morgue for autopsy.
