India rejects Pakistan proposal of ceasefire
Official spokesperson of ministry of external affairs ministry Navtej Sarna said, "There is nothing new in these suggestions."
"Instead of propagandist statements, Pakistan should take effective and long-term oriented measures to dismantle the infrastructure of support to terrorism," he said.
Musharraf had proposed to a visiting Indian team of parliamentarians and journalists that he would "facilitate" a truce in Jammu and Kashmir if India stopped "atrocities" in the state.
Sarna said these suggestions "have not been found effective in the past because Pakistan has continued to sponsor terrorism directed against India and provided support to cross-border infiltration."
He added, "Once this is stopped and Pakistani-aided terrorist stop crossing the LoC, the level of firing would naturally go down'.
Sarna also expressed disappointment over the suggestions from the Pakistani leadership that they had done all that they could to stop cross-border infiltration and terrorism.
"The facts point to continuing Pakistani support through funding, training, indoctrination, launch and guidance," he said.
ANI from Lahore says that Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has reportedly accepted an invitation to travel to Amritsar in Punjab in a hot air balloon.
Former parliamentarian and Congress Party member Vishwa Bandhu Gupta, who is currently the president of the World Hot Air Balloon Association, extended the invitation, local newspapers reported.
According to him, Musharraf had accepted the invitation, while remarking that it would be as daunting a task as finding a solution to breaking the stalemate in Pakistan-India relations.
