Tk 1 cr fish washed away in Satkhira

About 200 shrimp enclosures and 150 ponds in Shyamnagar, Assassuni, Debhata, Kaliganj and Sadar upazilas were inundated, local people said.

More than 500 kutcha houses collapsed and crops on a vast tract of land damaged. Low-lying areas of Shyamnagar, Kaliganj, Debhata, Assassuni and Sadar upazilas were submerged.

The district administration opened a control room to combat the situation.

However, the extent of damage could not be ascertained officially. Met office recorded 156-milimetre of rainfall in two days in the district.
