Rajshahi cinema sealed for screening vulgar film
The action followed Tuesday night's raid when police recovered vulgar films while being screened. The cinema was known for screening vulgar films for long.
Police also seized two projectors, equipment, vulgar posters, cinema tickets and other documents and arrested two employees.
Some 30 unidentified viewers were also injured as riot police closed all the doors of the cinema and used batons during the raid.
However, the person who ran the cinema was not arrested. The cinema is owned by Rajshahi Association, which leased it to one Salem Uddin of Sagarpara in July 2003. But Rabiul Alam Milu, a BNP worker and commissioner of ward No 13, reportedly ran the hall on behalf of the lessee.
Nearly 50 policemen led by three magistratesShafayat Mahbub Chowdhury, Rashedul Amin, Sohel Imam Khan --and senior police officials of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police conducted the raid.
Aslam Iqbal, OC of Boalia thana said, the cinema authorities were screening vulgar films for long though they were facing charges for this.
A case was filed with Boalia police station accusing four persons. They are lessee Salem Uddin, machine operator Shahid Ali and the two arrested employees --Bablu Babu and Enamul Haque.
The task force headed by the Additional District Magistrate was formed following a directive from the information ministry.
