Hartal at Fulchhari
Fulchhari Upazila Shifting Resistance Committee called the hartal to press the government for cancellation of tender and other formalities aimed at shifting the UZ head quarters.
Three persons named Rintu, Pintu and Montu involved in the shifting process were beaten up by angry processionists on the hartal day.
The resistance committee leaders demanded immediate cancellation of the shifting order, otherwise, they threatened a greater movement.
Because of widespread erosion by the Brahmaputra, the government decided to shift the upazila headquarters. Already crores of taka were spent for the purpose.
Earlier, many shops, offices and structures were either shifted to safer places or devoured into the river.
The resistance committee undertook a month long agitation programme including procession, protest meeting and strike.
