Barisal teachers' association office 'ransacked' by rivals
Both the factions later issued statements accusing each other.
The faction belonging to Hena Das alleged that their rivals belonging to Kamaruzzaman attacked the office when they were holding a meeting on preparations for the association's October 15 programme demanding the proposed Padma Bridg at Mawa.
They alleged that the attackers ransacked three rooms at the office, looted Tk 50,000 of the teachers' welfare fund and injured four of their colleagues including Ashis Das Gupta, the associations Barisal district convener and Nurul Islam.
Office property and furniture worth over Tk one lakh were damaged during the attack led by Makhan Chandra Ball, Mozammel Hoque, AKM Zaman and Abdul Majid, they claimed.
The faction which made the attack was earlier expelled for corruption and irregularities, they claimed.
The opponent group led by Siddiquer Rahman, district president of the association, said the office was under their possession. The group belonging to Hena Das was expelled earlier.
Siddiquer also claimed that on Saturday in the morning, the rivals entered the office forcibly and occupied it.
He denied that his men attacked the office. He said he will lodge a case against the illegal occupants after the association's secretary Santosh Mukharjee returns from Bhola.
Police visited the spot.
