Local govt leaders do less important jobs
Members of parliament (MPs) and persons of their choice conduct the essential works which are supposed to do by the local government representatives.
Speakers told this at a deliberative forum meeting titled "Role of Mass Media in Strengthening Local Government" at the conference room of Meherpur Circuit House last Sunday.
The Bangladesh Centre for Development, Journalism and Communication (BCDJC) organised the meeting while it was supported by the USAID-funded Local Government Initiative (LGI) and implemented by the ARD Inc.
Meherpur Paurashava Chairman Mutadeem Billah chaired the meeting. Meherpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abul Kashem, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Rashedul Islam, ARD Grants Specialist Daniel Talukdar, Amjhupi UP Chairman Borhan Uddin, Mahajanpur UP Chairman Monowara Bablu, Gangni Paurashava Chairman Md Amirul Islam, Gangni Basandi UP Chairman Md Awal along with journalists, government officials and the civil society participated.
Ex-President of Meherpur Press Club Ruhul Quddus Tito moderated the programme.
While speaking the DC told that local government can not be strengthened without people's confidence. Mass media can play an effective role in earning people'sconfidence, he said.
