It is murder, not suicide, says victim's mother

The mother of Mizanur Rahman, a fishery official whose body was found at the Matsya Bhaban in Dhaka on January 19, claimed that her son was killed as per a plan.

Some vested quarters are now trying to establish that he committed suicide, Shamsunnahar told a press conference at Mymensingh Press Club on Sunday.

Police found the body of Rahman, Assistant Director of Natun Jolmohal Project (new water body project), hanging from the ceiling of a lavatory on the fourth floor of the Matsya Bhaban.

Shamsunnahar said that on January 15 at about 3 pm, her son had received a telephone call. He had angrily replied, "What harm will you do?"

"My daughter-in-law Amina Khatun Sheuli (Rahman's wife) asked him (Rahman) who made the call. Rahman had told her that the call was made by the Director General".

Rahman later informed Sheuli that there were irregularities in earthwork at a fishery project and the file (of the project) was missing, Shamsunnahar said.

She also said that on January 19, Rahman dropped his wife at Banglamotor (in Dhaka) and told her that he had a meeting at the Secretariat and might have late to return home.

At about 1.10 pm, Sheuli received a telephone call at her office. The caller asked her to come to the Mastya Bhaban with a male member.

Sheuli rushed there and met the DG, who informed her that Rahman committed suicide.

Shamsuunnar said the culprits will be brought to books if proper investigations is made.

She said her son was an honest official and he had no frustration in family life or personal life.

Sheuli could not attend the press conference as she was dejected, she said.

Mizanur Rahman, a resident of Mymensingh town, left behind his wife and a daughter.
