12 politicos killed in Bogra in 8 yrs

Twelve political leaders were killed here in eight years.

Of the killed, four were BNP leaders, seven Awami League (AL) leaders and one Jatiya Party (JP) leader.

Sadar thana police said AL-backed Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Bisu was killed on the Bogra Zilla Board premises on April 2, 1995 in a tender-related conflict.

Two Jubo League leaders Mongla and Zuhurul were killed simultaneously by a group of miscreants in a conflict over establishing supremacy in the area on February 5, 1998.

Masum, Bogra town BCL secretary was killed the same year in a conflict over illegal toll collection. Jubo League leader Shaheen was killed in 1999 in revenge for Masum killing.

Another BCL activist, Panna was killed by a group of people involved in BCL politics in mid-'99 in an internal conflict. Tanvir Hasan Samor was killed on May 20, 1999 in Hakir Morh area of Bogra town in a conflict over sharing of illegal toll. Samor's supporters killed another BCL activist Forhad Hossain on the same day on the premises of Mohammed Ali Hospital when he went to see injured Samor.

Touhid, an alleged terror and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activist was killed by rivals of the same organisation on February 11, 2000 in a conflict over sharing illegal toll and establishing supremacy in Hatat railway market here. Police told at least six cases were lodged against Touhid.

Jatiya Party activist Robiul Hasan Titu was killed in another conflict on June 22, 2001 in Nataipara area in the town. Police said he was involved in three murder cases including cousin Moni and a multi-millionaire Abul Kashim Khan murder. A responsible police officer said he was killed in revenge for Moni murder.

BNP leader Liton was killed at Dupchachia in an intra- party conflict a few months ago. Another JCD activist Raton was killed by his political opponent a few years ago.

However, none was punished for the killings.
