Train derails in Gaibandha, link snapped for 8 hours

Train communication on the Santaher-Lalmonirhat route was disrupted for eight hours when a passenger train derailed at the outer signal of Sonatola railway station on Sunday afternoon.

About 25 persons sustained injuries when the fear-stricken passengers tried to jump out of the derailed compartments.

Sources in Railway told this correspondent, a Bonarpara-bound local train was approaching towards Sonatola railway station on Sunday afternoon. The loco-master pulled hard brake to stop the train at the outer signal. At once the locomotive power and the attached compartments derailed due to impact of the hard brake.

Eight out of 25 injured passengers were shifted to hospital for treatment. They are Nazrul, 30, Minarul, 28, Tuli, 30, Babu, 45, Halima, 40, Enamul, 22, Jahidul, 42, and Azam, 20.

The derailed compartments were rescued and train communication was restored in this section from Monday.
