Vow to resist extortion, drug

Initiated by the Hawkers Market Trader's Association, it was supported by the Brahmanbaria District Traders Co-ordination Committee, Brahmanbaria Market Committee, Masjid (mosque) Committee and Jagat Bazar Trader's Association.

The processionists paraded the roads chanting various slogans against the crimes.

The rally held at Jagat Bazar was addressed by, among others, Md Jahirul Haque, Md Osman Gani, Md Nannu Mia, Md Abul Foyez, Md Alauddin, Al-Haj Md Sirajul Islam and Hafez Md Ahsan Ullah.

Speakers at the rally vowed to build a movement against the crimes and called upon the people to join it.

On Friday, Jagat Bazar Traders Association brought out a 'whistle and stick procession' in the town against extortion.

They chanted slogans like 'apply sticks against criminals' and 'crush dens of drug peddlers'.

They also protested the murder of goldsmith Gautom Talpatra, killed by toll collectors on February 3.
