BNP MP, 23 party men sued by AL
The manager of the business firm lodged the case on Wednesday with a Magistrate Court in Nilphamari, which fixed March 31 for hearing.
It was alleged in the case that the BNP MP drove his car through an AL procession brought out to drum up support for the party's hartal on the next day (Saturday Feb 14).
But BNP refuted this and said Amjad Hossen's car encountered the processions incidentally and AL precisionists led by Aktar Hossain Badal damaged the car and made an attempt on his life.
Awami League alleged that after the incident, BNP workers led by Amzad Hossain Sarkar attacked and looted Aktar Hossen Badal's business office 'Shyamoli Poribohon' and Sramik League office in the town.
Earlier, Amzad Hossen Sarkar's car driver Md Asraf lodged two cases against Nilphamari Awami League Labour Secretary and district Sramik League President Aktar Hossen Badal and seven party men accusing them for damaging the car and attempting to kill Amjad Hossen.
Another case has been filed against 16 activists of Chhatra League and Jubo League, student and youth fronts of AL.
Police have arrested AL leader Aktar Hossen Badal and party man Md Idris Ali, president of the local chamber.
On Sunday last, AL and Jubo League brought out a procession but it was dispersed by police.
BNP also brought out a broom procession protesting what they called AL's said bid to kill Amjad Hossain Sarkar.
When contacted yesterday, Amzad Hossen denied the charge that he had driven his car through the AL procession. He said he incidentally faced the procession while going to attend the Janaja of former chairman of Khata Modhupur Union Parishad in Syedpur.
"The AL activists attacked and damaged my car and made an attempt on my life. BNP activists showed utmost in the face of attack", he said.
