Notorious outlaw Abdul Gaffar alias Tushar, now in custody, has confessed to his involvement in 17 murders including those of Awami League leader Monjurul Imam, advocate Bijon Behari Mondol, journalist Manik Shah and Sirajul Islam, godfather of outlaw Mrinal.

Mrinal led a rival outlawed party, NBCP (Nutan Bangla Communist Party).

Tushar, Satkhira district 'commander' outlawed Purba Bangla Communist Party's (PBCP ML Janajuddha), was interrogated at Satkhira by a team comprising Khulna DIG (Deputy Inspector General of Police) Abdul Aziz Sarkar, Police Superintendent Rafiqul Islam and Capt. Sakib, police sources said.

Police here so far got information about 10 murder cases against him. They have asked police stations in the region to send records of other cases against him.

He has also disclosed names of his political godfathers, who include some BNP leaders and Jugikhali UP chairman Rafiqul Islam. But police declined to disclose names of the BNP leaders.

Police said Gaffar is yet to give any information about his arms.

Gaffar was arrested by a team of Joint Forces from a rented house of BNP leader and Jugikhali Union Parishad Chairman Rabiul Alam at Kalaroa upazila headquarter Wednesday night.

He told the interrogators that he developed a network with at least 200 armed cadres of Janajuddha in Satkhira under the protection of his political godfathers including a UP chairman in Kalaroa.

Police said he looked quite normal during interrogation. He is not repented for his misdeeds. Rather he replied to questions "firmly", police said.

The joint forces, taking him along, raided several places on Thursday and Friday to nab outlaws and recover arms.

Joint forces also raided the house of BNP leader and UP chairman Rabiul Islam but failed to arrest him. Police said Rabiul Islam is also wanted in several cases filed with Kalaroa thana.

Gaffar was taken to Sonandanga thana on Saturday to probe Sirajul Islam murder case. He has been shown arrested in the case.

Gaffar was released from jail in April last year. Meanwhile Sonadanga police arrested four persons in-connection with Sirajul Islam murder case from Patkelghata Bazar in Tala upazila on Saturday.

They are Eman Ali, former chairman of Khalil Nagar UP, Nazrul Islam, son of Laban Sardar of Hajra Kati village, Hafizul Islam, son of Anis Sardar and Lutfor Rahman, son of Shon Sardar of Atarain village in Tala upazila. Sonadanga police are interrogating them.
